GT3, JV is seeking a Full-time Athletic Trainer Certified at the Naval Station Great Lakes, Great Lakes, IL. Position is in support of the Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWCEN) Preparatory Course, overseeing students during training.
SUMMARY:
The athletic trainer is the liaison between the patient, the medical staff and their support staffs, and the active duty military staff. Job includes following the patient from the time of arrival to their time of departure and making sure all the patients and doctors needs are met to provide the best physician/patient care as possible.
Additionally the athletic trainer will develop strength and conditioning programs, collaborating with the strength and conditioning staff when appropriate, and ensure recovery protocols are followed. This position reports to the NSW medical staff members as well as the Program Manager.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
The athletic trainer must be certified by the Board of Certification, Inc. and a minimum of two years’ experience in clinical and/or collegiate level care is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for following new patient care from check in to check out.
Liaison between patient, NSW medical staff, active duty military, physical training staff as well as physicians or physician’s office staff.
Responsible for escorting patients from the medical department to appropriate clinics and training offices.
Responsible for data collection and data entry (patient history).
Responsible to provide home exercise protocols for patients.
Responsible for patient setup and education of electrical modality units.
Responsible for patient brace/crutch fitting and product education.
Responsible for daily stocking of clinic rooms.
Responsible for following all HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
Responsible for following all OSHA guidelines while handling blood or bodily fluids.
Responsible for organization of work time, work areas, patient notes and files.
Responsible for education of staff and students in the prevention of physical training related injuries.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to medical assistants for stocking and cleaning of all clinic areas. These areas include exam rooms, doctor’s stations, closets, and any area patient may have access to. If you see paper on the floor picks it up. Clinic exam rooms are to be thoroughly cleaned biweekly or sooner if needed. If stock is low or missing restock it and let the supply representative know what product needs to be reordered.
Responsible for helping to check in charts the night before patient’s appointment and making sure all needed information is in chart: test results, referrals, lab results, ect. If anything is missing call the appropriate facility to retrieve the needed information. This should be done prior to the patient being seen by the physician.
Responsible for backing up other employees, active duty military staff and training staff which may include changing offices, stations, or assignments.
Must be able to answer phones, take messages, or transfer patient to appropriate department.
Must be able to communicate with patients, senior military staff, fellow employees, physicians, and physician support staff.
Must be able to take pulse rate, blood pressure, respirations, and or temperature and determine if any of the above is normal or abnormal.
Responsible for aiding physician in procedures as needed.
Responsible for wound care and wound dressing.
Responsible for maintaining clinic flow between all areas of the clinic.
Opening procedures: Make sure all lights in all patient areas are turned on and all patient rooms are cleaned and stocked. Turn on pen tabs. Make sure all the fee tickets and new demographic forms are complete. Help with any remaining chart preparation. Look for any test results that may have come in overnight. Make sure all clinic areas are cleared of dictated charts or papers left by previous physicians or physician staff.
Closing procedures: Help make sure all charts are checked in and notes are left for the needs of the visit. Help check in X-ray jackets. Check charts to make sure all needed information is in the charts for the next day’s visit. Help spray down all exam rooms with disinfectant cleaner and set rooms back up. Make sure all clinic areas are cleared of dictated charts or papers left by previous physicians or physician staff. Discuss injuries with students active in training program.

Job Requirements :
Required (Mandatory Qualifications):
Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate area of specialization.
Two (2) years professional experience.
Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
Certified and possess Licensed by IDFPR: certification or registration for the state of Illinois.
Athletic Trainer, Licensed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A common knowledge of sports and/or sports medicine is beneficial.
Respectable and responsible.
Competent and knowledgeable of current rehabilition treatments and modilities.
Professional in appearance and conduct.
Ability to provide good customer service to athletes
Supportive of the NSWCEN mission.
Preferred
Master’s degree
Some medical experience
Familiarity with NSCA and TSAC

Job is performed in and outdoors. Fast paced orthopedic medical practice environment. Occasional night or early morning hours. Must be able to adjust and adapt to rapidly changing schedules and conditions. Be able to handle military protocols that patients must abide by. May also be in a modern office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Does not supervise any direct reports.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
Must possess the ability to obtain access to military installations.
