Profile

The Head Cheerleading Coach will provide leadership, plan, organize, and be responsible for the Hampton University Cheerleading Squad. In addition to, recruitment, management, instruction and training of the cheerleading team. This role will promote a wholesome team spirit and cooperative spirit between the student body, the faculty and the school administration. Also, this position will prepare the cheerleading squad to perform at all home football games, all home men’s and women’s basketball games, cheerleading competitions, and post season tournaments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Hampton University Requirements:

Increase overall school spirit, by promoting student & fan engagement at games and athletic events. This will require coordination with Marching Force, Athletic Marketing, school spirit groups, and student organizations. Teach and lead student section cheers at games.

Increase overall visibility of cheer team with participation in community events, local schools and service organizations.

Broaden the portfolio of cheers, stunts, dances and Pom Pom performances to provide entertainment for diverse audiences.

Develop and execute recruitment and retention of quality student athletes including but not limited to: off-campus evaluation, contacts, organization of on-campus visits, and tryouts.

Managing and organizing pep rallies, mascots, and any other spirit related activity held on or off campus.

Build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, former players, faculty, alumni, staff, media, boosters, and the community.

Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for college athletes.

Work effectively with student athletes of varying abilities, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.

Responsible for inventory, selection and care of equipment and proper care of the school facilities.

Manage the team budget and put together a competitive schedule in line with that budget.

Responsible for team fundraising activities.

Communicate effectively with team members, recruits, university organization, coaching staff, and administration.

Emphasize academic success and service to all team members.

Motivate and mentor collegiate student-athletes.

Scouting of opponents and instructing team on the strategies to be implemented in the program.

Commit to all Hampton University, Big South Athletic Conference, and Hampton University Athletics Department policies and procedures. Advise student-athletes in their day-to-day activities.

Maintain a good working relationship with all athletic coaches and staff regarding facility use and condition.

Coordinating with the band and other school groups for game-day activities & special events as needed.

Strong organizational, management, and interpersonal skills are necessary.

Strong communication skills demonstrating the candidate to be a positive motivator.

Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.

Excellent written/oral communication, as well as demonstrate strong organizational skills.

Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking.

Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends throughout the year for practice, games and recruiting.

Be able to transport team to the contests, and be responsible for their well-being.

Could be exposed to a variety of weather conditions.

Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or his/her designee.

Requirements

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and prior experience as a college cheerleader or Cheerleading Coach. AACCA Certification is required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of cheerleading skills, tumbling, stunting in a college environment

Knowledge of AACCA rules and regulations

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to direct activities to achieve goals

Aptitude in demonstrating and clearly explaining cheer skills to student athletes

Strong administrative and management skills

Ability to troubleshoot complex situations and issues

Capability of working nights and weekends (including traveling)
