WEST staff earn competitive pay and will be making an impact on peoples' lives in no timernrnSIWM INSTRUCTOR:rnHOURS PER WEEK: 6 - 30 hours a week pending on individual availability, but instructors are able to earn more by taking on private lessons on weekends where their pay per hour is increased. Lifeguard trained and certified Instructors are also able to take up available guarding shifts, with same pay rate.rnrnSKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:rnrn-Minimum age 15rnrn-Must have experience with children ages 3 to 12 years old, or willing to learn to work with children.rnrn-Preference for candidates with competitive swimming experience and a basic knowledge of proper stroke technique, but not necessaryrnrn-Preference for candidates who are Water Safety Instructor certified, but not necessary.rnrn-Maintain positive and polite attitude towards all swimmers and parents.rnrnRESPONSIBILITIES:rnrn-Responsible for assuring a safe and fun environment for all students.rnrn-Build confidence in and around water and promote lifelong enjoyment of swimming.rnrn-Follow program curriculum and teach proper skill progressions for competitive swimming.rnrn-Give each individual adequate attention, feedback corrections, or coaching during the class session.rnrn-Be punctual, with enough time to change and set up work station prior to the start of class as well as take down after their shift.rnrn-Attend regular staff in-service training.rnrn-Maintain professional appearance and attitude.rnrnLIFEGUARD:rnLifeguards are critical to the operation of all WEST programs and are responsible for maintaining the safety of all customers, athletes and lesson children.rnrnLifeguards are outgoing and responsible individuals who maintain the overall safety of our guests by anticipating, recognizing and managing weak or distress swimmers in WEST Facilities and pool. Schedule is flexible with preference for afternoon, evening and weekend hours.rnrnDuties include but are not limited to the following:rnrnEnsure the safety of all swimmers and guests by enforcing & educating pool safety rules.rnGuard areas of responsibility while maintaining proper scanning and other vigilance awareness techniques.rnRespond appropriately to distressed guests by administering first aid or appropriate rescuesrnComplete daily cleaning duties and operational safety checks.rnMaintain a clean and safe environment, as well as maintain all rescue equipment.rnAttend Inservice training sessions as directed by management.rnComplete appropriate rescue reports and incident reports as needed.rnFollow proper procedures for closing and re-opening of pool and facility during daily operation for mechanical or operational needs.rnTake regular pool chemical readings.rnMaintain professional appearance.rnrnSKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:rnrnMUST BE American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard and CPR certified.rnMinimum age 16.rnKnowledge of pool equipment and basic cleaning.rnMust be competent with water safety and lifeguarding skills.rnAttention to detail.rnArrive to scheduled shifts punctually.rnAble to read, comprehend, and verbalize instructions, safety rules and procedural manuals.rnMust have excellent customer service, interpersonal and teamwork skills.rnLift, pull and/or push up to 50 pounds at a time.rnSwim 50 yards - swim a depth of 5 feet and a distance of 10 feet under water to retrieve a 10-pound brick.
