BLM California's Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office (PSSCFO) manages a complex variety of public lands: about 3.6 million acres. The PSSCFO stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Colorado River and from the International border with Mexico to where the mountains meet the Mojave Desert: encompassing an area larger than the state of Maryland. The office manages fourteen Wilderness areas, fourteen Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs), all or part of four National Monuments (Sand to Snow, Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains, California Coastal, and Mojave Trails), and three National Scenic and Historic Trails (the world-famous Pacific Crest Trail, and the historic Juan Bautista de Anza and Old Spanish trails).

Living Allowance:
The member will receive a living allowance of $700/week to offset the cost of housing, food, and incidental expenses.
Housing:
Housing is NOT provided by the BLM. Members will be responsible for securing their own housing during the term.
Position Description:
The BLM PSSCFO is currently working on a number of projects with the California OHV commission's Grant program to help monitor, sign, and maintain routes in the limited use areas of the field office. The ACE Member will serve the Bureau's missions by enthusiastically working to fulfill the following responsibilities (but not limited to):
Conduct inventories for both authorized and unauthorized trails/routes.
Develop, design, and implement restoration and signage efforts to curb impacts from illegal OHV incursions.
Execute specific trail work projects.
Assist in specific species surveys collecting data in remote backcountry environments.
Qualifications:
Required
Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
US Citizen or Permanent Resident
A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request)
Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to and willing to work outdoors, in varying weather conditions, participating in physical labor
Comfortable working/hiking in a remote backcountry environment.
2 years of college/work experience but additional time preferred.
Preferred
Strong background and interest in Recreation, Public Lands, and Federal Policy
Experience working with BLM or other DOI departments.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and participate effectively in collaborative efforts.
Familiarity with California Desert environments.
Ability to collect data using GPS/GIS.
4WD experience
