This is a 9-month, part-time position with an expectation of four hours of responsibilities per week. Compensation is $20.83 per hour (total of approximately $4,000 for the 9-month term), paid bi-weekly, based on expected and recorded hours worked, and all compensation is subject to applicable withholdings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Brownson Speech and Debate Team
The Assistant Coach will coach undergraduate Brownson Speech and Debate students in two areas of expertise during a 9-month period (September - May) of competition, with a specific emphasis on events held during the academic year. The Assistant Coach will also assist the Head Coach and serve as a judge as needed. The assistant coach will provide written updates of student progress to the Head Coach and Director on a bi-monthly basis.
The Assistant Coach needs to be familiar with the mission, vision, philosophy and processes of the Brownson team and complete the University's Title IX training course. The Assistant Coach needs to possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and evidence of ability to work with students and coaches in an environment committed to promoting the Catholic mission of the university.
*On-campus and virtual coaching for students on the Brownson Speech & Debate team in two core areas of expertise to include, but not limited to, IPDA Debate, Limited Preparation Events, Public Address Events, and/or Oral Interpretation.
*Research possible topics and propose topics to Head Coach and/or Director. Maintain detailed log of student coaching interactions and notes.
*Review all student ballots after tournaments and make suggestions to students, Head Coach, and/or Director regarding changes in topic, structure, content and delivery.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in any field is required. Master's degree in Communication or related field of study preferred. Proven excellence in competition and coaching experience may substitute for Master's degree. 1-3 years in competitive speech and debate experience on college level is required
