Swim Coach
for a government project in the Great Lakes, IL area. This position will support student training evolutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are
not
intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.
Demonstrate the points of performance for the exercises associated with the Physical Standard Test, as well as ensure exercises are being performed to the established standards.
Use active duty members assigned to the Preparatory Course as the source of information for SEAL and SWCC training in order to train, brief, and inform students of changes in these programs.
Recommend solutions to establish and maintain database/spreadsheet records of NSWCEN students and their status in the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory School, specifically in regard to students’ performance on the PST.
Implement the established academic curriculum provided by the NSWCEN.
Increase student awareness of physical standards for respective NSWCEN programs.
Provide medical attention to include, but not limited to, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices while awaiting EMT Paramedics on scene.
Facilitate training modules in front of candidates in various forums to include, but not limited, to pool decks, classrooms, workout facilities, and podium lectures.
Assist in collating results of testing into a per class report, along with providing recommendations for curriculum changes based on critique results.
Assist the rehab team by facilitating training for individuals with physical limitations.
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications
Swim coach shall have a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working as a water/swim coach/instructor in a training environment
Valid US Driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook)
The persons for these positions shall have daily contact with junior sailors. As such, they must adhere to the highest standards of conduct in their interaction with these sailors; and understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the Swim Coach, and provide the experienced, professional, administrative, and technical support required to achieve the desired degree of student preparation to accomplish program goals.
Prepare students for success in SEAL, and SWCC selection and training pipelines by working with applicants to maximize their potential in aquatics and physical training modules. This shall include guidance and application of physical preparedness and training techniques for the PST to include, but not limited to, swim stroke development with and without fins, water confidence, running, and lower and upper body development.
Preferred
It is desired that each water/swim coach have one (1) year of Swim Coaching experience at a competitive level (club, collegiate, or Olympic).
It is desired that each water/swim coach possess a valid and current Level 3 Swim Coach certification as recognized by the American Swim Coach Association
A valid and current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
BS in Kinesiology or Exercise Science related field
Military experience

Swim Coaches are required to meet minimum Physical Standard Test (PST) requirements within 30 calendar days from date of physical check in to Great Lakes. Reference: current MILPERSMAN 1220-410 SWCC candidate standards. Physical Training Instructors shall maintain a sufficient fitness level to pass these same standards on a yearly basis
****WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position requires working indoors, outdoors and in a pool. Must be able to maintain health in hot and cold conditions with exposure to the elements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform and supervise physical training modules with students.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
