Day Service Instructor:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade XII diploma (or G.E.D.).
Completion of the one year Disability and Community Support Program certificate or 1 year (30 credit hours) of studies in relevant University level courses
One year (2015 hours) of experience working directly with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working within a participating team model.
Able to follow detailed instructions in a precise and conscientious manner.
Motivated and capable of performing responsibilities and duties with a minimum of supervision/guidance.
Must have the physical ability to participate fully in the lifting and handling of adult clients according to accepted practices.
Valid Class 4 driver’s license obtained by the start date of the position or within 6 months of acceptance of the position, whichever is later.
DUTIES:
To provide direct supervision and instruction to assigned clients during program hours according to individualized program objectives.
To participate in the assessment, planning and implementation of individualized training programs for participants assigned to him/her.
To consult clinical team members for assistance in assessment, program development and problem solving whenever indicated and according to their area of expertise.
To organize/prepare training tasks and activities for the participants on a daily basis.
To ensure that all equipment is functioning safely and adequately and maintain general upkeep of Adult Program facilities.
To keep an up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment and notify the Program Facilitator of anticipated needs.
To keep records and documentation as required by program Coordinators.To prepare and present client progress reports at scheduled Client Performance Reviews and at annual IPP's.
To provide or arrange transportation for participants to and from program locations.
Participate in residents' personal care routines on the living unit and in program training areas where necessary.
Participate in staff development activities related to the performance of duties, i.e. inservices, seminars, reading, etc.
To keep the Adult Program Team Coordinators informed of emerging needs/problems within the program.
To participate in the training and supervision of volunteers and grant staff.
To work harmoniously with co-workers in high demand situations.
Peform other related duties as may be assigned.
Instructional Assistant:
QUAIFICATIONS
Must possess a Grade XII diploma (or equivalent).
One year certificate in a relevant area of study (e.g. Developmental Service Worker Certificate, one year completed towards the Early Childhood Education Diploma Program or Educational Assistant Diploma).
A combination of Grade 12 and three thousand (3000) hours of experience working in a school program within the last five (5) years, may be considered in lieu of certificate provided the candidate is willing to undertake further educational course work (at own expense).
Experience with individuals with severe developmental disabilities is an asset.
Previous experience in an interdisciplinary school environment is an asset.
Must have the ability to work effectively within a participatory team approach.
Knowledge of the history of education and support services to people with disabilities and current trends, philosophies and practices concerning their care, education and lifestyles is an asset.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Must be flexible and able to work with modified school structures when this is of benefit to students.
Computer literacy related to special education computer software is an asset.
Must possess a class 4 driver’s license or be willing to complete this requirement within four months of being hired to this position.
DUTIES:
Supports teacher to identify, with other interdisciplinary team member, the total needs of a group (classroom) of residents.
Follows the direction of the Teacher, working with other team member to deliver the educational component of the overall program of care, education and training. Duties include carrying out directed learning activities, and providing primary physical care (e.g. feeding, changes, health procedures, etc.) to students as needed.
Participates in a formal IPP/IEP (Individualized Program or Educational Planning) process to ensure that the overall needs and preferences off each student are addressed by an interdisciplinary team at least annually and those educational plans and consequent outcomes are documented.
Works closely with other team members to ensure coordination and integration of services.
Communicates with students’ family members or advocates as required.
Support others to function as effective team members and to achieve consensus decision.
Provides direction, supervision and assistance to volunteers. Assists with planning and implementing appropriate orientation for volunteers.
The Instructional Assistant is responsible for participating in and supporting an integrated total quality management/continuous quality improvement program (and culture) within the School Program that emphasizes a client focus and staff empowerment.
The Instructional Assistant is responsible for helping predict changing needs of students, for modifying services to meet changing needs and for contributing to the ongoing development of the School consistent with the leadership and vision of the Centre.
Recreational Instructor:
