GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Coordinate activities and provide secretarial support for a multi-faceted clinical/research office in a high level orthopaedic surgical practice with a specific focus in treating athletes. Additional administrative duties will include coordinating events for a new women's sports medicine program that involves outreach and education for female athletes. Ensure a smoothly functioning office and good patient relations. Interact with patients, patients' families, referring physicians and third party carriers with regard to patient-related issues. Work with others in a team environment. Must have superb interpersonal and organization skills. Interest in sports medicine or athletic background preferred. The majority of time will be spent in the orthopaedic office environment. Educates patients concerning injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance improvement. Performs brace fitting and crutch training in the clinic environment. Possibility of expanded community outreach through functioning as an athletic trainer in schools and sports events

• Coordinate a multi-faceted clinical/research office.
• Perform administrative duties for the Women's Sports Medicine Program.
• Post/schedule all surgeries. Complete appropriate paperwork, prepare surgical file and x-rays,
obtain insurance pre-authorization, and communicate information to patients.
• Assist patients, patients' families, referring physicians, and third party carriers to resolve patient
related issues.
• Schedule patients for laboratory and radiologic tests, pre-surgical testing, and consultations.
• Relay information to patients/parents regarding preparation for tests and consultations.
• Maintain familiarity with various types of medical insurance to explain these plans.
• Obtain pre-certifications as required by patient's health care insurers or managed care providers for medical equipment and therapy.
• Inform patients of costs of care being provided and guide them to appropriate resources for further information, guidance, or assistance.
• Transcribe routine correspondence and reports from dictation or handwritten copy using personal computer.
• Schedule and coordinate surgical postings and pre-operative tests.
• Schedule and coordinate meetings and conferences, which may include booking sites, coordinating AV support and catering.
• Use personal computer to prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, statistical reports, tables, and charts using knowledge of scientific, medical, literary, or other technical terms.
• Answer telephone, triage calls, relay messages, and greet visitors.
• Maintain calendar, schedule appointments and meeting rooms.
• Open, sort and screen mail.
• File in alphanumeric order and locate material from files.
• Assist with making routine travel and accommodation arrangements.
• Coordinate servicing of office equipment.
• Operate personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support
• software.
• Use automated records system to access, enter, edit and mail patient information.
• Complete various request forms for office supplies and equipment as directed
• Perform brace fitting and crutch/gait training in the clinic setting
• Perform home exercise teaching programs in the clinic setting
• Game or event coverage may be possible
• Assists in expediting patient flow.
• When needed, performs patient care including cast application/removal, splinting, post-op wound care, fitting patients for braces and suture/staples removal.
• Transcribes orders, including diagnostic testing and medications.
• Develops athletic injury protection programs as appropriate to patient population.
•Functions under the scope of practice of a certified athletic trainer in the State of Massachusetts.



Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
Successful completion of BOC certification examination.
Licensed in Massachusetts.
CPR/First Aid/AED Certification.


LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:


Must be licensed in the State of Massachusetts.
