Assumption University is a private, Catholic university which offers its 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students a Catholic liberal education. Job Description:
BASIC PURPOSE: Provides leadership for a comprehensive athletic program that appeals to a wide range of intercollegiate athletes, students in the Blue and White Club Sports offerings, and serves to enhance students' liberal arts education by promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, athletics recruitment, competitive excellence, a commitment to diversity and socialization in support of the mission of the University.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Directs, plans and coordinates the University's athletic programs ensuring that the programs provided are of high quality, well-publicized, well-organized, meet the needs of students, faculty and staff, and that all are in compliance with NCAA, the NE 10 and other applicable rules and regulations;
2. As a member of the VPEM's Sr. Team, works closely and collaboratively with its members;
3. Directs and supervises the work of departmental employees including, though not limited to supervising, training, scheduling and evaluating employees. Holds the authority to take appropriate disciplinary action within University guidelines. Though not having authority for the ultimate decision on a subordinate's change of status, uses discretion and judgment to compare options, advise and recommend a course(s) of action as to hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or other change in status;
4. Oversees all athletic-related activities to ensure that events run smoothly, including monitoring schedule of activities, ensuring that all necessary equipment and personnel are on hand for events, and handling emergency situations;
5. Manages departmental budget, including preparing and recommending annual budget, and monitoring and approving expenditures to ensure that they are within the established guidelines. Works with the Institutional Advancement Office in fundraising activities;
6. Evaluates existing programs and activities, including the enhanced Blue and White Club sports, identifies necessary changes or unmet needs, and originates and implements new programs, both in intercollegiate and Blue and White club sports, procedures, and policies;
7. In collaboration with the office for Institutional Advancement, raise funds for the athletic department;
8. Serves as the liaison to the University administration, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the NE-10 Conference, other Universities both regionally and nationally, and to the Worcester community in order to promote the athletic programs and the University as a whole;
9. Works collaboratively with the Office of Communications and the Office of Marketing to ensure University brand consistency in athletic communications and materials; maintains open communication about initiatives that may have a broad media impact; and seeks to develop cooperative programs that benefit both the Athletic Department and the University;
10. Works collaboratively with the Director of Recreation on the use of athletic facilities for non-student athletes and intramurals;
11. Serves as a Campus Security Authority for Clery reporting purposes and a Responsible Employee for Title IX reporting purposes;
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
* Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University;
* Keen insight into the University's concept of the student-athlete within the core academic programs;
* Strong commitment to achieving excellence in accordance to the mission and goals of the University;
* At a minimum, must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field;
* An understanding of and commitment to the role of intercollegiate athletics in an institution of higher learning; knowledge of compliance requirements, strong leadership skills; proven success in fiscal and personnel management; integrity; demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, alumni, public and media; vast understanding of the changing nature of intercollegiate athletics; commitment to diversity, gender equity and academic integrity; and exemplary interpersonal and communication skills;
* Success in the areas of marketing, fund-raising, promotions, and media relations;
* Senior administrative management experience;
* COVID-19 vaccination and booster required.
Additional Information:
SCOPE:
* Directly supervises staff of 16 full-time and 7 part-time professionals and support staff.
* Provides sports programs for over 500 participants per year.
* Communicates on a regular basis with students, faculty, administration, parents, members of the community, counterparts at other institutions, and officials of the NCAA and NE-10.
* Manages a departmental budget of over $1million.
* Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. Some travel will be expected.
