People serving in the Sports and Recreation fields are found to be extremely competent, active and constructive by nature and character. Thus, to make a career in this field one should possess the above qualities. Now you must be thinking of the different types of jobs you would be doing in this field. You can be a sports management consultant, a sports editor of any newspaper, a sports critic, a coach, etc or you may be a player yourself.

The job of a Sports Management Consultant or Recreation Manager is the strategic planning of the sports team or the sport as a whole. He has to work with team managers, the coaches, etc, for the welfare of the team. Normally he has a lot of experience in his field. If you are thinking of becoming a Sports Editor then you must be well aware of the sports you write about and also you should have a good language sense. You should be able to work for hours and at times for days continuously.



To be a critic in the Sports and Recreation field, you need to know your game very well. For example, if you want to be a cricket critic then you must have a sound knowledge of cricket. Only then would you be able to analyze whether the captain should have used a fast bowler or a spinner. Practice is always good; but at the same time, you must find a good coach for yourself who will teach you to play the game.

To become a good sports news reader, you should be a qualified person as you should have undergone a journalism course, or some courses on creative writing.

Everyone wants to be a Dhoni or a Beckham; Maria Sharapova and Sania Mirza have become the role models of younger women. There have been ways to attract more people to watch different games, by allowing the common man to participate in various other activities – like predicting the scores of the match or winning prizes from lotteries. The media has helped the common man very much, to get people interested in the Sports and Recreation fields.

The companies which sponsor the game make a lot of money through advertisements. All these sound very nice, but to make a true career in the Sports and Recreation field is really very tough. One should be a person of great zeal and perseverance. If it is so, then the rewards are fabulous.
